Garden Works - Overview

Introduction

In addition to providing professional landscape architectural services, LT Design Studio designs, builds, and installs raised garden beds for residential and commercial clients. Our eastern red cedar beds are ideal for vegetables, herbs, cut flowers, and pollinator plants. The heavy timbers and solid construction techniques ensure that your garden will withstand the elements and provide a space for your green thumb to flourish for many years to come. If your garden will be a centerpiece of your property, ask us about our design services to help you craft the oasis you have in mind.

Process

Prior to beginning the design of your garden or fabrication of your raised beds, we will schedule a time to meet with you at your home or business to perform an initial site analysis. We will seek to gain a better understanding of your vision, what you want to grow, and the availability of sunlight and a water source. A consultation fee of $100 will be due at the conclusion of this meeting. If you decide to move forward with planting beds, we will prepare a detailed quote outlining the specifics of your project. Before fabrication of the beds begins, a down payment for sourcing materials will be required, with the amount depending on the extent of your project. The consultation fee and initial payment for materials will both be applied to the total project cost.

Materials

For the construction of our beds, we only use Eastern Red Cedar (Juniperus virginiana) which is a durable native tree found in abundance in Tennessee. Eastern Red Cedar is naturally rot and insect resistant without the use of harmful preservatives, providing peace of mind when growing food to feed your family. All of the lumber we source for our beds is harvested and milled in Middle Tennessee. At the time of installation, red cedar has a striking red color, but will naturally age over time to a weathered gray tone.

The soil that we utilize to fill our garden beds is a carefully crafted mix of topsoil, mushroom compost, leaf compost, and mycorrhizae that is blended and sourced in Nashville.

Fabrication and Installation

The lap-joint construction techniques we utilize in fabricating our garden beds provide for strong connection points, while minimizing the use of nails and screws. All of the corner joints are hand sawn to ensure a precise fit. Heavy duty exterior grade timber screws are used to tie the pieces together into a stable structure that will serve you for many growing seasons.

Once the timbers for your garden beds are fabricated, we will schedule a time with you to come to your home or business and complete the installation. We will fill the beds with soil for an additional fee, or can provide you with an estimated quantity of soil if you wish to fill them yourself or enlist the services of a landscape contractor.

We do not install or maintain plants or irrigation in the garden beds we construct, but would be more than happy to provide you with recommendations for companies that provide those services.
